Acton Acton Woman's Club - ADA Access Improvements

Acton Community Housing Regional Housing Services

The Town approved a two-year CPA appropriation for this regional program in 2012. This funding renews the Town's participation and will cover the fees for the next two-year contract. The regional program assists with affordable housing matters which include monitoring affordable units, compliance with regulatory agreements and home ownership training for affordable unit owners.

Acton AHA - Windsor Ave Doors and Windows

This project will fund much needed new doors and windows at the AHA apartment complex at Windsor Ave in order to protect the housing units from further deterioration due to weather and mold.

Acton Morrison Farm Improvements

This project will fund a new handicapped accessible trail system , an archaeological survey of Robbins Homestead and Ice House area, improvements to an existing parking lot and addition of a small picnic area as well as refurbishing the boat launch and directional signs.

This project will fund an overhaul of the existing fire and safety protection systems which will include ADA compliant components. This extraordinary repair is necessary for the building to maintain its functional intended use.

Acton Community Housing Program Fund

Replenish the existing Community Housing Program Fund, held by the Acton Community Housing Corporation, for the acquisition, creation, preservation and support of community housing in Acton. $153,140 has been was made available to purchase a 3BR unit for the Acton Housing Authority

Acton Acton Housing Authority- Project Feasibility Study

Funding has been made for the Acton Housing Authority to fund consulting service for a planning and feasibility study. The study will assist in determining the most feasible options for creating new affordable housing opportunities for low income Acton seniors.

Acton Forest Cemetery- National Register

The Massachusetts Historic Commission has previously deemed the cemetery eligible for inclusion in the National Registry Listing and Cemetery Commissioners have affirmed their desire to pursue this designation. The recommended $10,000 will provide funding to hire a Historic Preservation Consultant to prepare the nomination papers submitted to the National Park Service.

Acton Acton Women's Club- Phase 2, Preservation & Accessibility

The Acton Women's Club is located in the Acton Center Historic District. The Women's Club received Community Preservation Act (CPA) funding in 2011 for the installation for an accessible sloped walkway at the right-side building entrance to provide handicap accessibility to the first floor. Funding has been made to complete the second phase of the project and include addressable fire alarm system, illuminated signs, emergency lighting and panic devices on the exit doors.

Acton Acton Arboretum- Fern Boardwalk and Tree Removal

Funding has been made to help fund the construction of a new boardwalk and the removal of 14 trees to improve safety and forest diversity.

Acton Ice House Pond & Robbins Mill Pond- Water Chestnut Removal

Funding has been made to fund a three-year water chestnut removal program for Ice House Pond and Robbins Mill Pond. The preservation project will be conducted by a licensed environmental company using mechanical harvesting.

Acton Acton Arboretum- Irrigation Well

Funding has been made to fund the cost and installation of an irrigation well at the Acton Arboretum. The Acton Arboretum water supply has been shut down for 2 years due to a leak. The Acton Arboretum water comes form a metered town service near the corner of Taylor Road and Main Street.

Acton Schools- Nature Play Space, Construction

Funding has been made for the construction of handicapped accessible resource rich, simply constructed nature place, spaces for the elementary schools in Acton. This request is for the construction of the Nature Play Space for the Acton elementary schools as part of the regional school system.

Acton Discovery Museum- Discovery Woods & Creativity Playscape

The Discovery Museums, INC. proposes to build two main outdoor recreational activity areas, called Discovery Woods and Creativity Playscape, to relocate parking and to build a gateway/ portal to allow better access to the adjacent Great Hill conservation and recreation land. The Total project cost is 1.3 million, of which 85% is funded through private donations. Funding has been made to help fund the two main outdoor areas, Discovery Woods (a nature playscape) and the Creativity Playscape.

Acton Assabet River Rail Trail

The 12.5-mile Assabet River Rail Trail (ARRT) is proposed to run from Acton via Maynard, Stow, and Hudson to Marlborough The five communities have jointly advanced the trail since 1995 and a section of the ARR5T in Marlborough and Hudson is built and actively being used. To date, the ARRT has revived close to $2.2 million in public and private funding, donations, and commitments. Acton Town Meeting has appropriation to meet their 20% local share for trail design cost. Funding has been made to help fund the easement acquisitions.

Funding has been made to replenish the existing Community Housing Program Fund for "the acquisition, creation, preservation, and support of community housing in the Town of Acton." ACHC proposes to continue its current programs and initiate new ones: Closing costs and mortgage payment assistance for subsidized units, purchase or subsidy of 7 units, capital improvements, membership in the Regional Housing Services Program.

Acton Land Acquisition

This parcel contains 11.94 acres of open space, of which roughly eight acres is forested wetlands and floodplain. Within the wetlands on the property is the tributary that forms Muddy Brook. Mt. Hope Cemetery, which abuts the Heath Hen Conservation Area, borders the parcel on the east and south sides.

Acton Acton Historical Society

Funding has been made to the removal and replacement of the existing wood shingle roof. The House is in danger of water and other damage due to the deterioration of the roof. The Acton Historical Society received CPA grants in 2011 for the restoration, rehabilitation of the windows and doors and for the roof replacement of two out-buildings on the property. There is an existing historic preservation restriction and the existing historic preservation restriction may need to be updated.

Acton Acton Arboretum Cedar Arbor, Kiosk and Culvert

Funding has been made to fund a three piece project to help restore existing recreational structures to enhance the Arboretum. It first helps to create a new cedar arbor to replace the broken one. Next, the it helps to the replace the old kiosk. Lastly, it helps to replace a broken culvert under the wildflower trail. The Friends of the Acton Arboretum will donate $1,000 to help offset the costs of this project.

Acton NARA Parking Lot Expansion

Funding has been made to the construction of a parking expansion at the upper parking lot. The upper lot consists of a 24-car paved parking lot extension along the walking trail between the existing paved upper lot and the sports pavilion. The parking lot will include additional handicap spaces next to the sports pavilion and provide for better traffic circulation.

Acton Iron Work Farm

Funding has been made to the preservation, restoration, and protection of the original historic features including window frames, rotted clapboards, and trim elements on the 1732 main house, the ca. 1750 tavern ell, and the early 19th-century west ell. It also includes some selective repointing of the foundation, replacement of the wood shingle roof on the 1870s north ell, and the historically-appropriate replacement of some 20th- century features that have deteriorated beyond repair. The Jones Tavern has received CPA grants in prior years to restore its four brick chimneys and replace a portion of its roof. There is an existing historic preservation restriction and the historic preservation restriction may need to be updated.
