Clipper City Rail Trail, Newburyport

CPA funds were used to purchase rights of way over rail beds and adjoining parcels for creation of a rail trail, part of a large Open Space bonded purchase. Further CPA funds were appropriated for improvements to the rail-trail in the years following the purchase of these access rights. The first phase of the project involved development of a 1.1 mile bike trail between the Merrimack River and the MBTA Commuter Rail Station. In later phases, the city will use its CPA funds to develop the remaining portions of the rail trail which will eventually run for 3 miles around downtown Newburyport.
